This year, I began serving as a pastor at New City Church of Los Angeles. The Lead Pastor, Kevin Haah, took a four-month sabbatical in the late spring and through the summer. While he was away, the church hosted a number of guest speakers and some speakers from within the congregation. I also preached a five-part sermon series on Hebrews 11.8-19 called "Seeking the New City."
For several years now, this passage has been paradigmatic for me. It has framed and shaped my experience of faith. I have meditated, studied, and prayed this passage over and over. It was instrumental in the process of discerning a calling to church plant in Boston and name the church New City. It was also instrumental in the process of discerning a calling to Los Angeles, to join New City LA.
The five messages are:
- The Journey of Faith
- Belonging and Hope
- Living in Tents
- Discovering Alien Life
- The Rhythm of Resurrection
